About

Me in a cafe enjoying Hot ChocolateHello and welcome to my website. I’ve always drawn and painted even as a small child and knew that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. Here’s a wee bit on my art background: I have a BA in fine art and have worked in various media including: watercolor, oil, pastel, scratchboard, acrylic, jewelry, as well as designing, building and painting shaped furniture. In fact, there’s a lovely chair of Queen Elizabeth II in our dining room that causes visitors to do double-takes. I’m also proficient in Adobe software products and have worked as a graphic designer for over 29 years.

What motivates me? I have an inner need, as many artists do, to create. I see flowers, wildlife, or works by other artists and I have to get out the colors and start dabbing them on the canvas. You’ll see from my gallery that I do not have a singular style or type of subject matter. I’m too eclectic for that. Perhaps that is my style.

I taught myself to paint silk scarves about 12 years ago and stopped for about 8 to pursue other interests. I began making them again after the urging of a friend who kept telling me how beautiful they were and why wasn’t I making them. Thank you, Sandy. Now I am.

Cheers,
Diane Ridgell
